Admissions Process – Step by Step
Selecting the right school for your children is one of the most significant decisions parents face. At Ad Fontes Academy, our admissions process is carefully designed to help your family determine if our school is the best fit for your child’s education. The following steps outline that process.
Whether you’ve learned about Ad Fontes through friends, neighbors, or the internet, the next best step is to get to know us personally. While we are currently not able to welcome visitors in-person, families can register and attend Virtual Open Houses throughout the year. Our students are in school full-time, and keeping our visitors to a minimum is one step towards ensuring the children are able to stay healthy and in school each day.
Virtual Open Houses are offered semi-weekly, and both morning and evening options are available. These Zoom Webinars are hosted by our admissions director, and include an overview of classical Christian education by our Head of School, information about the application process, reflections from one of our AFA seniors, and plenty of time for Q&As. Register here.
Create an account here or or click on the “Online Application” button from the left menu. The $170 fee non-refundable application fee covers the cost of the entire process for one student. For families applying for multiple children, the max family fee is $300.
The application includes:
- Family information
- Student history and information
- Teacher referral
- Request for student records
- Reading/signing of Ad Fontes Academy Statement of Faith
Please note that applications will not be reviewed until all portions, including receipt of teacher referral and records, are received.
Our Early application deadline ended January 31 2021. To be considered in that first wave of applicants, you must have submitted your application and requested your referral and records. We have a rolling admissions process after the early application deadline.
Ad Fontes Academy admits students and hires staff of any race, color, national or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, employment policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
Once all materials are received, the admissions department will review each application. Those applications that meet the standard for approval will continue to the next step. If it is determined that the student is not likely to meet with success at Ad Fontes, we will touch base with that family via email or phone.
Those students who continue through the application process will complete an in-person assessment. Lower School assessments are administered by our Educational Therapist, while our Upper School students will be evaluated by our Student Life and Support specialist. The Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement, referred to as the KTEA, assesses students for academic skills in math, reading and writing appropriate to their age and grade level.
The best way for prospective students to get a true sense of the Ad Fontes Academy experience and community is to spend a day with us. Students applying for 6th grade and up will schedule a “shadow day” in order to get a sense of daily life at our school and be hosted by a student in their prospective grade.
If Covid restrictions prohibit shadow days, we will seek to connect prospective Upper School students via Zoom in order to make connections with current AFA students.
Upon completion of all other criteria, a family meeting will be planned between parents and AFA leadership. The conversation provides parents with an opportunity to ask and share answers that will help both parents and our leadership determine if Ad Fontes is a great fit for your children. Prospective Upper School students (rising grades 7 and up) are included in the family interview.
