Admissions Process

Admissions Process – Step by Step

Selecting the right school for your children is one of the most significant decisions parents face.  At Ad Fontes Academy, our admissions process is carefully designed to help your family determine if our school is the best fit for your child’s education.  The following steps outline that process.

Step By Step Admissions Process

Visit Ad Fontes

Whether you’ve learned about Ad Fontes through friends, neighbors, or the internet, the next best step is to get to know us personally.  We are excited to invite you to register and attend an In-Person Open House this winter.

In-Person Open Houses are offered on Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. on the following dates: February 15th, March 1st, and March 29th.  These Open House events will offer families an opportunity to tour the campus, visit classrooms, and hear from both our leadership and our students why Ad Fontes is a unique and special school. These events are hosted by our admissions director and include an overview of classical Christian education by our Head of School, information about the application process, and plenty of time for Q&As. Register here.

Give us a call at 571-348-0784 or e-mail admissions@adfontes.com, or fill out our request for more info form.

Apply Online

Create an account here or or click on the “Online Application” button from the left menu.  The $170 fee non-refundable application fee covers the cost of the entire process for one student.  For families applying for multiple children, the max family fee is $300.

The application includes:

  • Family information
  • Student history and information
  • Teacher referral
  • Request for student records
  • Reading/signing of Ad Fontes Academy Statement of Faith (at least one parent is required to be in agreement with our Statement of Faith)

Please note that applications will not be reviewed until all portions, including receipt of teacher referral and records, are received.

Ad Fontes provides needs-based tuition aid to qualifying families.  If you plan to apply for assistance, please complete the FACTS application in addition to the school application.

Our early application deadline is December 31, 2021.  To be considered in that first wave of applicants, you must have submitted your application and requested your referral and records. We have a rolling admissions process after the early application deadline.

Ad Fontes Academy admits students and hires staff of any race, color, national or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, employment policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.

Application Review

Once all materials are received, the admissions department will review each application.  Those applications that meet the standard for approval will continue to the next step.  If it is determined that the student is not likely to meet with success at Ad Fontes, we will touch base with that family via email or phone.

Complete Assessment

Those students who continue through the application process will complete an in-person assessment.  Lower School assessments are mainly administered by our Lower School Principal, while our Upper School students will be evaluated by our Director of Student Support. The Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement, referred to as the KTEA, assesses students for academic skills in math, reading and writing appropriate to their age and grade level.

Shadow/Meet Other Students

The best way for older prospective students to get a true sense of the Ad Fontes Academy experience and community is to spend a day with us.  Students applying for 6th grade and up will schedule a “shadow day” in order to get a sense of daily life at our school and be hosted by a student in their current grade.

Attend Family Meeting

Upon completion of all other criteria, a family meeting will be planned between parents and AFA leadership.  The conversation provides parents with an opportunity to ask and share answers that will help both parents and our leadership determine if Ad Fontes is a great fit for your children.  Prospective Upper School students (rising grades 7 and up) are included in the family interview.

Timelines and Deadlines

Ad Fontes begins accepting applications on the third Tuesday of October for the following school year.

Determining where and how your children will be educated is a weighty decision.  At Ad Fontes Academy, we will work together with you to determine if our school is the best fit for your family.  Our step-by-step admissions process is deliberately designed to achieve that goal.

If you haven’t already done so, please make plans to attend an Open House event to begin the admissions process for your children.

  • Early application deadline: December 31st.  All complete applications will be given priority over those submitted after that date.
  • Second application deadline: January 31st.  All applications completed between December 31st and January 31st will be considered as a pool.  Additionally, they will be given priority over those who apply beginning February 1st.
  • Rolling admission begins: February 1st.  Any applications received after this date will be considered (space permitting) on a rolling admissions basis.

NOTE:  Ad Fontes Academy implements a hard cut-off date for kindergarten and first grade of August 1st.  All kindergarten applicants must be 5 years of age by August 1st of the year in which they plan to enter kindergarten. All first grade applicants must be 6 years of age by August 1st of the year in which they plan to enter first grade.
