Selecting the right school for your children is one of the most significant decisions parents face. At Ad Fontes Academy, our admissions process is thoughtfully designed to help families determine if our school is the best fit for a child’s education. The following steps outline that process.
Whether you’ve heard about us through friends, neighbors or our website, the next best step is to come see us! Beginning in October of each year, we offer semi-weekly Open Houses on Tuesday mornings. Click here for the 2017-18 tour schedule. These mornings provide families with an opportunity to tour the campus, visit classrooms, and hear from both our leadership and our students on the benefits of the AFA community and of a classical education. Walk-ins are welcome, but we will be better prepared to provide you with the best experience if you register in advance.
To begin an application, simply create an account here or or click on the “Online Application” button from the left menu. Application fees ($170 for grades Jr. K-6 and $120 for grades 7-12) are non-refundable. In addition to basic information, parents will be asked to submit an email address for a teacher referral, read and sign our Statement of Faith, and request records from the child’s current school. All parents will be asked to complete a parent questionnaire, and Upper School applicants will submit a questionnaire as well. Please note that applications will not be reviewed until all portions, including receipt of teacher referral and records, are received.
Ad Fontes Academy admits students and hires staff of any race, color, national or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, employment policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
After an application is complete and has been reviewed, every prospective student (except for Junior Kindergarten) must complete an assessment. Students applying for grades K-6 will be assessed by an Ad Fontes teacher beginning in mid-January. Rising Junior Kindergarten students will be assessed beginning in February.
Students applying for grades 7-11 must sit for the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam). For your convenience, the ISEE is offered monthly at Ad Fontes beginning in November. Alternate days/sites are available at an extra cost. Please note that in order for your student’s results to be provided directly to Ad Fontes Academy, you must indicate our school code, 472631, when you register.
The best way for prospective students to get a true sense of the Ad Fontes Academy experience and community is to spend a day with us. Students applying for 6th through 11th grades will schedule a “shadow day” in order to get a sense of daily life at our school and be hosted by a student in their prospective grade.
Upon completion of all other criteria, a family interview will be planned between parents and AFA leadership. More conversation than interview, this provides parents an opportunity to ask and share answers that will help both parents and our leadership determine if Ad Fontes is a great fit for your children. Upper School candidates are included in the family interview.
Determining where and how your children will be educated is a weighty decision. At Ad Fontes Academy, we will work together with you to determine if our school is the best fit for your family. Our step-by-step admissions process is deliberately designed to achieve that goal.
Most families plan to visit Ad Fontes in the late fall through the early winter months. We will begin accepting applications for the 2019-20 school year on October 16th, 2018.
- Early application deadline – December 31st, 2018. All complete applications will be given priority over those submitted after that date.
- Second application deadline – January 31st, 2019. Any applications received after that date will be considered (space permitting) on a rolling admissions basis.
- Rolling admission beings – February 1st, 2019 Any applications received after this date will be considered (space permitting) on a rolling admissions basis.
Family interview will be scheduled after all admissions materials are received and considered complete. Early admissions decisions will be made by mid-February.
