“For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.” Psalm 36:9

The Fountain — Our New School Blog

When you think of a fountain what comes to mind?

Refreshment and fulfillment? The focal point of a village or plaza? Perhaps like me, you think of a common, modern-day water fountain — the place you vigilantly seek during an outing, when requests from thirsty and tired children ensue.

The fountain evokes images of community and a gathering place, as well as a babbling brook or a spring flowing forth water. In Biblical times, fountains were natural sources of living water; springs that flowed freely and provided pure, clean water. Invaluable to both the individual and the collective society, fountains were critical to daily life. It is extremely significant that Jesus Christ referred to himself as the fountain of living waters (Jeremiah 2:13). He is the source of our salvation and is our spiritual fountain, washing away our sins.

Fountains have particular relevance to our school name and mission. The Latin phrase “Ad Fontes” is translated as “back to the sources” or literally “to the fountains.” Just as a fountain is the source of water and the direct place we go to receive life-sustaining nourishment, our school aims to make God central to each subject, thus sustaining the mind, body and soul of the student. We firmly believe the values and vision of our ancestors are critical to forming our future leaders. Therefore we seek the source of great writers and thinkers of the past, through a classical liberal arts and sciences education.

I am flowing with excitement as we embark upon the 20th anniversary of Ad Fontes Academy and we kick off our new school blog “The Fountain.” We plan to delve into topics that are near and dear to our heart, which spring forth insight into the value of a classical Christian school of excellence in Northern Virginia.

Our goal is to provide an outstanding education to students, serving the Christian community in Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William County, by raising up servant leaders just outside of our nation’s capital. As we return to the source and equip students for a life of purpose, wisdom and virtue, we see students and families transformed to live to their fullest potential, firmly rooted in Christ.
